A Message from Foundation Leadership

The Anderson Abruzzo International Balloon Museum Foundation was established in 1999 to bring community organizers together to create a world-renowned air and space museum highlighting lighter-than-aviation, the significant role of Albuquerque and New Mexico, including the incredible accomplishments of many Albuquerque citizens. Maxie Anderson and Ben Abruzzo, two of the founders and most accomplished Albuquerque pilots serve as inspiration and namesakes of the now City of Albuquerque museum.

The Balloon Museum Foundation now serves as a support organization to raise funds, provide services and resources, promote and advocate for the Anderson Abruzzo Albuquerque International Balloon Museum. The Balloon Museum Foundation is an independent 501(c)3 run by a staff, board of directors and volunteers.

The Balloon Museum Foundation raises funds and operates earned income endeavors to maintain and grow the work of the Foundation and to support the Balloon Museum with funds and services. Some programs of the Foundation include the Balloon Museum Shoppe, Museum Membership Program, Ticketed dining events during Balloon Fiesta (The Observation Deck), Forever Tile program and Special Events. In addition, the Balloon Museum Foundation organizes and funds State legislature lobbying for Capital Outlay funds, supportive marketing endeavors to encourage Museum visitorship and volunteer and Museum staff appreciation efforts.

As quoted by Timothy Keller, Mayor, City of Albuquerque, “The work nonprofits across our city do, day-in and day-out, embodies the One Albuquerque approach of community service and a shared vision for our city’s wellbeing.”

The Balloon Museum Foundation with the City of Albuquerque holds a shared vision for the Balloon Museum’s wellbeing.

On a mission to uplift.
